The Italeri 1:48 Opel Blitz Tankwagen kfz.385 (2808) Battle of Britain 80th Anniversary plastic scale model represents one of the most iconic vehicles of the Second World War. The Opel Blitz was the primary truck used by German forces, deployed in vast numbers across all fronts, earning its reputation as the “workhorse” of the Wehrmacht.
With its rugged frame, durable rigid axles with leaf springs, and rear twin-wheel design, the Opel Blitz was capable of carrying over 3 tons of payload. Powered by a reliable 3,600 cc engine producing 75 horsepower, it was both easy to maintain and incredibly versatile.
The vehicle’s adaptability made it the basis for numerous specialized versions, including the Kfz. 385 Tankwagen, which was the most common refueling truck used by the German Luftwaffe. Its impressive off-road capabilities allowed it to operate on emergency airstrips, often in harsh conditions like those found in Africa and Russia during the conflict.
Equipped with a rear-mounted fuel tank and a pumping system, the Kfz. 385 also featured a simplified cabin with a fabric roof and a repositioned exhaust system, all designed to facilitate the safe refueling of aircraft in the field.
